To adopt a dog from Spindletop you must:

*Be 21 years of age with legal proof of residence.
*Submit an application with references and be approved by adoption counselor.
*We do not adopt into same gender homes.  Ex:  if you have a female dog, only male dogs will be available for you to adopt and vice versa.
*Have prior responsible ownership of a pit bull or other "power breed".
*Agree to a homecheck both before and after the adoption.
*Apartments and townhomes ok.
*Must have a securely fenced yard.
*Provide a $ 125.00 adoption fee.
*Sign a legally binding contract stating your intention to properly house, provide vet care and responsibly own your Spindletop orphan for life.
*Sign a contract stating the dog shall be returned to Spindletop if not responsibly kept by the adopter under Spindletop's discretion.

What's the adoption process?

You must email at spindletopabr@aol.com for an interview and an application.  We will be able to match your preferences with the available dogs this way and send you an application by email or ground mail.  You fill out the applicaton and contract and set up an appointment to come visit the dogs at Spindletop.  We will then arrange a homecheck and reference check before releaasing the dog to you.  We do ship nationwide but you must follow our shipping protocol using Continental Airlines or picking the dog up yourself.  We stay in contact for the life of our adopted dogs and will do follow ups to be sure your new relationship is a joyful one.

Why adopt a rescued dog?

Spindletop dogs are evaluated for companion temperament and we know each dog's personality and what you can expect from the dog.  Our orphans are ready to come to your home with basic obedience and crate training and have all their veterianry care.  We are here to answer any questions regarding the dog and will help you solve problems as they come up.  Of course we love to hear from our adopted dog families for updates and happy stories as well!  We insist that the adopted dog be brougt back to Spindletop if a situation arises that endangers the dog's welfare.

Why are the dogs spayed and neutered?  How did the dogs get to Spindletop?

Spindletop rescues dogs from abuse, neglect, euthanasia at shelters and found as strays.  There are not enough responsible homes for dogs and it is irresponsible and unethical to add to the surplus of unwanted dogs.  Looking at our orphans, you will see beautiful, friendly dogs that represent the average pit bull terrier and unless dogs are being produced for standard show quality and working performance out of health screened, proven parents, there is really no difference between those pit bull terriers produced casually and Spindletop Orphans.  Spay and neuter your dogs, do not add to the problem!
